Making the Arrangements
The possibilities available to families making arrangements for a funeral cover a wide spectrum. From the most formal of traditional funerals, perhaps incorporating a horsedrawn hearse, to a very simple eco-friendly funeral in a woodland setting.
Whatever format (or lack of format) is decided upon, it is usually possible to introduce individual details that reflect both the personality and life of the one who has gone and the needs of the mourners, the ones who are left.
Here are some examples of the more unusual funerals we have carried out:
- The family of one gentleman decorated his cardboard coffin with events from his life, played well-loved music and swapped memories and anecdotes of his life, while toasting him in champagne at his woodland graveside.
- The funeral of an avid Chelsea FC supporter was a sea of blue and white (the Chelsea colours) including the (rather venerable) silver mercedes estate that transported his coffin to the crematorium.
- Friends of a gentleman, who was not in any way religious and who had stated that he ‘just wanted to be taken round the back at the Crematorium’ felt they really wanted to mark the passing of a well-loved friend. They held a very informal gathering in the Crematorium chapel, where they played music that had meant a lot to him and some of his friends each said a few words about him. His partner then spoke the words of a Celtic Committal, that she felt really reflected his love of the countryside and nature.
- In situations where the deceased has expressed a wish that there be no funeral, some families have welcomed our suggestions that they arrange a celebration of his/her life separately - maybe to include a burial or scattering of the ashes.
Inclusive Arrangements
In conjunction with Forget-me-not florists we now have pleasure in offering families floral tributes and service stationary, to be arranged in the comfort of their own home. Our aim is to reduce the stress experienced by bereaved families, who may find this service a welcome alternative to consider at this sad and difficult time. The inclusive price may also reperesent a considerable saving in the overall cost.
